Is It Worth It?

There’s a time in one’s life when one starts to wonder what is the purpose for all the daily hustle and bustle. Why stress over acquiring materialistic things when all that one needs in life is food, shelter, and love. So, is it worth the stress an anxiety to collect ‘stuff’ that we don’t necessarily need?

What difference does it make if you are driving a Toyota versus a Cadillac? Don’t both “wheels” take you where you need to get to? What difference does it make if you are living in a mansion or a small house? Doesn’t the small house protect you from the rain and the heat of the sun just as effectively as a mansion? Or, what difference does it make if you’re wearing Prada or regular clothing? Don’t both keep you warm? You are probably thinking, yes, but a Cadillac is more comfortable, and a mansion is more spacious and Prada clothes are nicer and fashionable. And I ask, does it matter? Really? If you are faced with a catastrophic event in your life, none of these possessions will matter. All you’d want is your health and happiness. So, is it worth it? Stop stressing out about having unnecessary possessions imposed on by society that won’t make you a better person.

Unless you have love and peace within yourself, no matter how many new fancy things you buy, you won’t feel fulfilled. So, focus on your present, enjoy and appreciate what you have now and enrich your life with kindness toward others instead of things.
